Kolegiata Narodzenia NMP w Wiślicy (obecnie diec. kielecka) powstała na miejscu dwu poprzednich kościołów, z fundacji króla Kazimierza Wielkiego w ramach pokuty, związanej z zamordowaniem księdza Marcina Baryczki na polecenie albo za wiedzą króla.
Niebezpieczeństwo ekskomuniki, nałożonej przez papieża Klemensa VI skłoniło króla do podjęcia szeregu czynów pokutnych. Między innymi do budowy kościołów pokutnych m.in. w Wiślicy, Sandomierzu, Stopnicy, Szydłowie czy Zagości.
Najpierw wzniesiono prezbiterium, na planie węższym od nawy, czteroprzęsłowe, zamknięte trójbocznie. Kolejno (po rozbiórce drugiego kościoła) zbudowano dwuprzęsłową nawę, której sklepienie wsparto na trzech filarach. W wyniku tej działalności fundacyjnej króla zbudowana została w Wiślicy w latach 1350-1360 istniejąca Kolegiata.
Nad bocznym wejściem do kościoła, od strony Domu Długosza, znajduje się ostrołukowy portal. Nad portalem umieszczona jest płaskorzeźbiona tablica erekcyjna z przedstawieniem Kazimierza Wielkiego. Król klęczy przed Madonną z Dzieciątkiem ofiarowując jej model świątyni. Za nim znajduje się biskup krakowski Bodzanty. Tablica powstała w 1464, przeszło sto lat po ufundowaniu kościoła z inicjatywy Jana Długosza, który pełnił w Wiślicy funkcję kanonika.
The Collegiate Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wiślica was built on the site of two previous churches, funded by King Casimir the Great as part of penance for the murder of priest Marcin Baryczka on the order or with the king's knowledge. The danger of excommunication imposed by Pope Clement VI prompted the king to undertake a number of penitential acts. Among other things, for the construction of penitential churches, among others. in Wiślica, Sandomierz, Stopnica, Szydłów and Zagość. First, the presbytery was built, on a plan narrower than the nave, with four bays, closed on three sides. Subsequently (after the demolition of the second church), a two-span nave was built, the vault of which was supported by three pillars. As a result of this foundation activity of the king, the existing Collegiate Church was built in Wiślica in the years 1350-1360. Above the side entrance to the church, from the side of the Długosz House, there is a pointed arch portal. Above the portal there is a bas-relief foundation plaque with a depiction of Casimir the Great. The king kneels before the Madonna and Child, offering her a model of the temple. Behind him is the Bishop of Krakow Bodzanty. The plaque was created in 1464, over a hundred years after the church was founded on the initiative of Jan Długosz, who served as a canon in Wiślica.
Die Stiftskirche Mariä Geburt in Wiślica wurde an der Stelle zweier früherer Kirchen errichtet und von König Kasimir dem Großen als Teil der Buße für die Ermordung des Priesters Marcin Baryczka auf Befehl oder mit Wissen des Königs errichtet. Die von Papst Clemens VI. verhängte Gefahr der Exkommunikation veranlasste den König zu einer Reihe von Bußmaßnahmen. Unter anderem für den Bau von Bußkirchen. in Wiślica, Sandomierz, Stopnica, Szydłów und Zagość. Zunächst wurde das Presbyterium auf einem schmaleren Grundriss als das Kirchenschiff mit vier Jochen gebaut, die an drei Seiten geschlossen waren. Anschließend (nach dem Abriss der zweiten Kirche) wurde ein zweischiffiges Kirchenschiff errichtet, dessen Gewölbe von drei Säulen getragen wurde. Als Ergebnis dieser Stiftungstätigkeit des Königs wurde in den Jahren 1350–1360 die bestehende Stiftskirche in Wiślica erbaut. Über dem Seiteneingang der Kirche, von der Seite des Długosz-Hauses, befindet sich ein Spitzbogenportal. Über dem Portal befindet sich eine Basrelief-Grundtafel mit einer Darstellung von Kasimir dem Großen. Der König kniet vor der Madonna mit Kind und bietet ihr ein Modell des Tempels an. Hinter ihm steht der Bischof von Krakau Bodzanty. Die Gedenktafel wurde im Jahr 1464 geschaffen, mehr als hundert Jahre nach der Gründung der Kirche auf Initiative von Jan Długosz, der als Kanoniker in Wiślica diente.
